![]() ![]() Step 11: Using any method you like, clean up the edges of your muzzle flash and you’re done! (Black and white comparison) ![]() ![]() Step 10: Set the layer blend to ‘Linear Dodge (Add)’ and merge those two layers. Uniform scale the duplicate so that the edges of the duplicates’ red bits are inside the originals' yellow area. Step 9: Take your muzzle flash layer and duplicate it. Once you have something that looks like this (see image) you are ready for the next step. (You will need to use Splatter and the blur tool a whole oodle of bunches(a lot)) As a rule, any time you use blur or the smudge, do it to the whole thing before you use the splatter filter again, otherwise your muzzle flash will start to skew in quality. Step 8: Using the blur, smudge (both at around 50% strength) and Control-F (to use the last filter used again which should be Splatter), tune up your muzzle flash until it has the desirable depth and energy that you want. Using the Filter>Brush Strokes>Splatter, with the Spray Radius Setting at 19, and Smoothness at 14, we start to see a pretty neat effect happen. Step 6: Give the edges of your shape some Smudge treatment (strength at 50%), don’t overdo this step, or you will lose your shape in a mess of blurry smudge-dom. Step 5: Now select a lighter color and with the paint bucket tool selected click on the inside of the shape twice. Step 4: Give your shape a stroke of 15 pixels from the center using the color of your choice, I use a burnt orange color. Step 3: Create a new layer and using the Polygonal Lasso, select a rough area the shape and size you want your muzzle flash to be. Create a background layer and fill it with black. Step 2: Open Photoshop and create a new document with the dimensions 512x512 pixels. Step 1: Read my treatise on Muzzle Flashes, it might help you decide on the shape and color of your desired muzzle flash. This tutorial will be for Adobe Photoshop CS4 or higher. ![]()
